Kellie Kano : branding film

Have you met Kellie Kano? If you have, you know that she has this radiance that just lights up any room. It’s cool because it’s so genuine, and we can only hope it comes across in this branding film we produced for her new site launch: (check out those beautiful scrolling images!). We aimed to show the “Kellie Kano experience”: the long-lasting friendships that develop between K and her clients is real and the comfort is felt from the moment you walk into her Revolution Mill studio. Kellie is also one of the more adventurous photographers we’ve worked with! During our initial production meeting Kellie asked: “So, how do you feel about shooting in a swamp”? We showed up ready to get wet (although not donning nearly as cute of wellies)! The result: some perfectly lit images/footage and an awesome on-the-job memory. Thanks to Michelle & Ryan for braving the bog and for being so incredibly photogenic and easy.

We’re so grateful that this process has resulted in a new friendship. Kellie is an extremely thoughtful pal and I (MacKenzie) have been inspired by the way Kellie balances being such a great wife, mom, creative photographer, and business owner. K, thanks for trusting us to capture your genuine spirit in this film. We’re already looking forward to the next time we get to work together!

Teddy - Just wanted to say I’ve been admiring your work for a while, and wanted to give you props. Nice work Inkspot Crow!

Jennifer Allison - ‎Kellie Kano’s work is incredible. I’d love to hire her when I need special photos. From looking at her work, she brings out the beauty in people & captures the most sincere moments. Her vision is genius.

admin - Thanks Em! We think she’s the bees knees and loved how she found perfectly light for us to shoot that day!

Emily @ Southern Weddings - Just beautiful! Love Kellie and LOVE this film!

Bryan & Megan, Wedding Highlights, Chapel Hill, NC

We think Megan and Bryan struck a perfect balance between fun and sentiment on their wedding day, and honestly, that’s no surprise given who these two are.  Both hold altruistic careers, using their talents to give back to the larger community on a daily basis. They are thoughtful, kind people and that came through in the choices they made in their wedding ceremony, from its location to their sentimental idea to seal letters to each other along with a special bottle of wine, in a box they nailed shut in front of all of their guests. It was evident that they’d put as much or more time and thought into the music and words that were shared at their ceremony as they did the flowers or the playlist for the band. And that thoughtfulness is something we can really get behind!

But these two also know how to have fun (their friends do too, as evidenced in the dance moves you will see!). They gave instruments to their guests and led everyone in a parade across UNC’s campus, past the Old Well, to their reception. They served D.C.’s frozen paletas: Pleasant Pops, and the bride danced in her Carolina blue high tops before guests “cheered” them out of Top of the Hill and onto Franklin Street. So yeah, they know how to strike a balance between reverence and party, and we think that’s quite cool!

M+B: we are honored that you included us in your special day, and thank you for reminding us to strike that balance! We know that when you open those letters on your 10th anniversary, you will have experienced tons of joy and fun-filled moments together. Thanks for letting us play a small part in that!

Welcome Melissa : Inkspot Crow’s first assistant editor!

As business owners, it’s been easy for us to pour our hearts and souls into creating personal wedding films. We develop genuine friendships with many of the couples who invite us to document their wedding day, and take great pride in editing films that are not only true to our brand’s style and aesthetic, but true to each couple. As our business has grown, we’ve really been fighting the need to expand our team, because we were fearful that we wouldn’t find anyone who would connect with our clients’ stories or our aesethetic. And then we met Melissa.

Melissa spent most of her summer behind a MacBook Pro in our Golden Belt studio as our first editing intern. She quickly blew us away with her editing prowess and her warm demeanor. Melissa is a creative editor with an eye for narrative and a killer taste in tunes. She is thoughtful and hard working and we’re so excited to have her join our team as assistant editor!

Meet Melissa:

Hails from: High Point, NC.
Gets giddy about: good scrabble word scores, surprising ingredient combinations, new school supplies, highway wildflowers, handwritten mail
Gets grumpy about: speed limits, overhead lighting, cereal for dinner, thoughtless movie soundtracks, the last episode of Friday Night Lights, unsweetened tea
Evidence of nerdery: obsessed with obscure fonts, still buys full music CDs, adamant about Ticonderoga no. 2 pencils.
Moving Picture inspiration: Wallace and Gromit, Anthony Bourdain – No Reservations, The King’s Speech, Little Miss Sunshine, The Princess Bride, anything Rick Steves.
In her headphones: Sondre Lerche, James Taylor, Ray Lamontagne, Jonsi, First Aid Kit, NeedtoBreathe, Beirut, Adele, Sara Groves
Can be Seen: wandering the public library, thrifting for semi-useful goods, teaching kids how to read good (ehem, well), eating that green sauce from Chubby’s Tacos, spending time out of doors in Downtown Dur-town.

Erica - Mel, CONGRATULATIONS : ) You are the most talented person I know and I am so very happy for you.

joni - so glad others will get to see some of your many talents

Salem - WAY TO GO MEEZ!!! This is awesome :-)

Courtney Hayes - Congratulations, Meller! You’re going to rock that job.

Gus & Annie : Wedding Highlights, Durham, NC

We got to know Annie & Gus (who live in LA) through candid email exchanges, a fun-filled Skype double date and over afternoon snacks at Fosters. You get to know them (a bit!) through the highlights film we’ve created of their wedding day. Annie & Gus completely personalized their wedding, and we aimed to carry their personality into their highlights film. We used the sweet song, “Married Life”, from UP because it’s one of Annie & Gus’ favorite films, and we felt it matched the sweet sentiment of the ceremony and the intimate moments before. The song has a storybook quality to it, which definitely fit the aesthetic of their day. One thing about Annie & Gus is that they’re not afraid to channel their inner child. A few fun things to look out for:

-The congratulatory poster that was actually signed by Miss Piggy & Kermit (!)

-Their muppet-inspired cake and the equally playful cupcakes.

-A fedora-donned entrance to the reception, compliments of Indiana Jones (Gus’ favorite movie). *Their first dance was to a song from Toy Story!

-This couple is not shy in front of the camera. Check out the footage from their photo booth. Props to our new friends Brett & Jessica for enabling this craziness!

Annie & Gus, your wedding celebration was obviously a labor of love for the two of you. Thank you so much for trusting us to document it in a way that was true to you. We only wish LA were closer…

Nina & Hong, wedding highlights, Cape Cod, MA

We love brunch + we love weddings, so we were pretty thrilled when Nina & Hong told us that is exactly what they were planning for their Cape Cod wedding this summer! With many miles between us, we “met” Nina & Hong though email and their engagement photos by my talented sis, Meredith. How cute are they, right? Nina’s sweet spirit came through in her emails and we used Google Video Chat to get to know them a bit before traveling up to Cape Cod for their big day!

I’d say theirs was the quintessential Cape Cod wedding: sailboats, blue skies, seagulls and sand. We love that the couple paid homage to their culture with a traditional tea ceremony on their wedding day and celebrated their crafty side with tons of DIY wedding details. But what we love most about Nina & Hong is their kind, appreciative demeanor. We love the thoughtful nature they both possess and it makes us confident they are perfect for one another. Congrats you two! We’re so happy you included us in your wedding celebration!

Style + Dish : launch film

Just 1.5 hours west of Durham lies Winston Salem, another tobacco-inspired city, which, like ours, has embraced its creative class of entrepreneurs and designers with open arms. What happens when three of this city’s most creative business women get together? They form Style + Dish, a couture event planning and design business aimed at bringing style to every aspect of corporate and private events.  Combining the talents of event planner, Becca Atchison, floral designer, Amy Dunlap, and creative chef, Holly Tate, the event firm aims to add continuity of style to every aspect of an event, from the table decor to the floral arrangements to the cuisine.

We were thrilled to play a part of the launch of Style + Dish by creating a branding film introducing the new company. From our initial meeting in their adorable Wiston-Salem studio, to the shoot on location at the WinMock at Kinderton barns, these three were a BLAST to work with and we just know their clients will enjoy every step of the process with these fun and talented women! We’re excited to share the expertly styled shoot these three and their team pulled together for this film.

Thanks Becca, Amy & Holly for sharing your big news with us, and trusting us in creating a visual snapshot of your multi-faceted company! We wish you TONS of success in your first year, and have no doubt we’ll be seeing great things from the three of you in the years ahead.
