The inn is personal (the owners and staff are so kind!), responsible (sustainable building practices and local products) and is packed to the brim with character and warmth signature to Durham’s Trinity Park neighborhood.

Innkeepers Deanna & Colin have breathed life into this iconic Durham home and I can’t think of a more perfect place to celebrate an intimate wedding or a weekend getaway. Philip and I recently spent a night at the Inn for our “stay-cation” . I should note that the comfort of their beds is only outmatched by Deanna’s scrumptious breakfasts (best pancakes ever!). ENJOY!

What’s not to love about Heather & Jen? The founders of Bull City Pet Sitting constantly keep us smiling. We first met these two fantastic women when they came over to meet our family (us and Charlie, of course) prior to taking us on as clients. They won Charlie over immediately (what is it about those treats!?) and of course, we were soon to follow. We love the way they combine their extensive knowledge of animals with down-to-earth charm. Like us, they adore Durham, NC and have quickly become the favorite among discerning pet owners who must part with their furry friends for a day or a weekend. Personally, I don’t know what we would have done without these two this year! It’s always the biggest treat to return home after a trip or from a long day of filming, and read the hand-written notes from Heather or Jen. They detail their visits with Charlie (which usually includes plenty of cuddling, belly-rubbing, and walks in the neighborhood) and their words give us such comfort. We love leaving Charlie in such capable, loving hands!

This film is dedicated to Calvin, who passed away this winter. A long-time friend of Bull City Pet Sitting, Calvin was fondly known around Old West Durham as “The Mayor of Englewood”. I’m so grateful we got to meet this sweet pup, and document his affection for Jen & Heather.

“When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight”. ~Kahlil Gibran, shared by BCPS on the day Calvin passed.

We’ve “known” Graham and Samantha for a while now, but didn’t actually meet them until this year, which is hard to believe! We knew them as “Grahamantha” and only through the kind words, fun anecdotes, and photographs shared by my sister, Meredith Perdue. They visit Meredith & Cain on their trips up to Maine and she photographed their lovely Chapel Hill wedding last year. Finally, last April we worked with Graham at this sentimental (and very adventurous) Chapel Hill farm wedding when he was shooting alongside Cindy Giovagnoli with Cuppa Photography. Everything we’d heard about Graham was true! He is kind, humble, and generous (offering for us to try the sweet Zeiss lens he brought to the wedding).
Fast forward to this fall when we finally got to meet the love of his life, Samantha. If you can’t tell from their engagement photos, these two are made for each other, truly! Samantha is warm; she makes you feel comfortable immediately. In fact, during our promo shoot I kept forgetting that I wasn’t there just to hang out with her!
We’re so grateful these two asked us to make a promo for Graham Terhune Photography! Check out Graham’s “Behind the Scenes” blog post from our shoot! The day we filmed was a gorgeous, warm November day in Chapel Hill. We filmed near their home as well as on Franklin Street and the iconic UNC campus. Big, big thanks to Mignon and Thomas for allowing us to tag along on this photo shoot, and for being such great models for this film!

Please check out Graham’s blog post of this promo film too!

We met her last summer at Jubala, one of her favorite haunts, to sample the famed “pour-over” style of coffee, to indulge in a golden nugget of a waffle, and to discuss a promo film to coincide with Nancy’s re-branding launch.

We also got to meet Nancy’s husband and photography partner, Will Ray. We discussed the music of Josh Garrells, their adorable “puppy” Winston (despite his size, we assure you he actually is a puppy), and the brand Nancy planned to launch this fall with the help of luxury wedding guru Lara Casey of Making Brands Happen fame.

We were thrilled to see Nancy’s new website and branding yesterday, and are so happy to finally be able to share the fruits of our collaboration with Nancy and Will. We hope this short film gives you a glimpse into the personalities and lives of Nancy and Will. We’re so glad to call them friends.

First, if you haven’t picked up the latest copy of Southern Weddings magazine, you are in for a treat! The hard work that went into planning and creating this issue is evident on each and every page of loveliness. This summer we were lucky enough to tag along with SW Art Director, Emily Ayer, and her team from Southern Weddings magazine as they worked with dynamic duo Joey + Jessica to create the ‘Paper, Cotton, and Flour‘ shoot.

I hope it’s evident from this BTS film just how hard this crew of creatives worked to create the shots you see in your magazine! I also hope we captured the fun and festivity of the day, to which there was plenty! Big thanks to Joey + Jessica for bringing the tunes to keep us going through the day. In fact, at one point in the shoot, the RJD2 song we’ve used in this film was playing on Joey’s iPod. Thanks for the inspiration!

Now, go grab your favorite warm drink, cozy up on the couch and turn to page 136 in your latest Southern Weddings magazine. I guarantee you’ll enjoy the Southern inspiration that Joey + Jessica captured so beautifully!

Filming and editing my sister’s life brought us such joy! I mean, how cute is their Maine lifestyle!? The footage of Michael & Mere on the beach with Orvis makes my heart melt! Editing this alongside Philip was a blast too- we kept saying “this is just SO Meredith!” Meredith, who is a much more eloquent writer than her older sister, explains our thoughts behind her promo film on her blog post. Be sure to check out her behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot!

This spring Philip and I traveled to the great state of Texas to film a series of videos for Seminary of the Southwest, an Episcopal seminary in the heart of Austin. Having seen our festive wedding film for James & Samantha (James is a seminarian), we got a phone call from the school’s Director of Recruiting & Admissions, who said “I want THAT energy in a film about our Seminary!” One film quickly evolved into six, and we spent weeks on the phone and email with the brilliant team at the Seminary: planning the five-day trip, coordinating shooting schedules, and arranging interviews.

I still remember our first hour at Seminary of the Southwest and being so excited to pick up our cameras and begin shooting the gorgeous live oak trees and historic buildings that created the lovely setting. And Austin! Oh how we love this great city with all of its creativity, independence, beauty, kindness, and yummy food trucks. We’re crossing our fingers that we get to return to Austin very soon!

But with all of the beauty and energy on the campus and surrounding it, it was the people of the Seminary of the Southwest that made us want to return! The work environment we encountered at Seminary of the Southwest is hard to describe in one blog post, because I believe it’s so rare in commercial filmmaking to experience such a bond with clients. There is a genuine warmth on this quaint campus that extends beyond common courtesies or southern hospitality. After five days on campus, Philip and I left with new friends and new perspectives on Christian higher education. It was the perfect balance of support and creative freedom, and we are so grateful for the contribution of so many wonderful people in making these films.

To our new friends at Seminary of the Southwest: thanks for fostering an environment where we could create. Thanks for sharing your meals (and your beer!) with us. Thanks for making us laugh so hard while we work. Thank you for opening up to us about a deeply personal educational experience. We hope to see you very, very soon!

Here are two of the films we created for Seminary of the Southwest. To watch all six films, visit our Vimeo page!

Their work caught our eye a little over a year ago when my step-sister Keri carried the most gorgeous wedding bouquet I’d ever seen. Beautiful bouquet = this. They were also the floral designers for a gorgeous Chapel Hill wedding we filmed this spring!

In addition to their lovely floral designs, Tre Bella’s downtown Durham bridal boutique houses some of the most exquisite gowns I have set eyes on! We lovethe intimacy of their boutique and the juxtaposition of the warehouse-district brick with the frilly frocks and chandeliers decorating their space.

Last month we joined photographer Meredith Perdue at Tre Bella’s workshop and boutique. While Meredith snapped photos for an upcoming magazine ad, we captured the sisters hard at work and in their element! As always, Meredith’s photos from the shoot are gorgeous!

Jeff Connolly moves with purpose. He inspires us with his passion and persistence for being a better lawyer, better friend, better father and better citizen. In conceptualizing Jeff’s promo film, it was important for us to convey his approachable, genuine, and thoughtful nature, while still paying homage to his success as a former prosecutor and experienced lawyer. After all, isn’t that what we all want in someone representing us: a hybrid of character, creativity and achievement?

We captured the footage for this short promo film in downtown Durham. Many thanks to The Cotton Room for graciously allowing us to film the interior shots in their beautiful space.

When Philip and I decided to start Inkspot Crow Films, we sat down to clarify some of our shared visions for our business. At the top of our list was the hope that we could work with organizations that shared our values and that our work would somehow contribute to making the world better. Enter Sarah Kate Fishback. SK, as we fondly call her, contacted us at the end of 2010 to talk about making a film for her employer, The Institute for Sustainable Development, who was hosting the 2011 Green Plus North American Sustainable Enterprise Awards at Research Triangle Park Headquarters in Durham. We saw this as an opportunity to connect with like-minded business leaders and use our craft to support a national organization with an excellent track record and a worthy mission. Congratulations to the businesses who were recognized that day. Thanks for inspiring us!
